"Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) is Oct 15 – Dec 7. Schedule your mandatory annual prescription and plan review today!"
🔍 What Does Part B Actually Cover?
Unlike Part A, Part B handles services outside of a hospital stay. Key covered areas include:
Doctor & Specialist Visits: Routine checkups, specialist consultations, and exams.
Preventive Services: Annual wellness visits, flu shots, mammograms, and screenings.
Outpatient Care: Lab work, X-rays, MRIs, and stitches at an urgent care clinic.
Durable Medical Equipment (DME): Wheelchairs, walkers, oxygen tanks, and blood sugar monitors.
💰 The Financial Reality of Part B
Part B is not premium-free. Every beneficiary must navigate these core costs:
The Monthly Premium: This is a standard base premium set by the government each year. It is automatically deducted from your Social Security check if you are collecting benefits.
The 20% Coinsurance Risk: Original Medicare only pays 80% of your Part B medical bills. You are left responsible for the remaining 20% out of pocket—and there is no maximum limit on how high that 20% can go.
The Annual Deductible: You must pay a small annual deductible out of pocket before Medicare begins paying its 80% share.
⚠️ The Risk of Delaying Part B
If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period and do not have a qualifying health plan from a current employer (with more than 20 employees), you face a permanent 10% late enrollment penalty for every 12-month period you delayed. This penalty is tacked onto your premium for life.
